How to move around a module

Each module comprises a number of tabs (think of a tab as a page), each one recording different details. Select a tab to open that page.

Tabs only display when a single record is open in Details View.

There are several ways to move from one page to another. You can:

Use the Tabs bar

The Tabs bar is located along the bottom of a module window:

To move from one tab to another you can:

1. Click a tab in the Tabs bar.

   Its page will open and the tab label for the open page is highlighted with a dotted border (Person in this example).

   Sometimes there are more tabs in a module than can be displayed in the Tabs bar at any time. If the navigation arrows appear in the Tabs bar, select the left or right arrow to cycle through the list of available tabs.

Use the keyboard left and right arrow keys

This is an alternative to using the navigation arrows in the Tabs bar.

1. Select a tab.
2. Press the keyboard left or right arrow.

Use the Menu bar

1. Select Tabs from the Menu bar. A drop list of available pages displays.
2. Select a tab label from the drop list:

   

Use keyboard shortcuts

Select CTRL+Shift+ [the leading letter of the tab label].

For example, to move to the Roles tab you would select CTRL+SHIFT+R together.

If there are several tabs with the same leading letter, keep selecting the key combination until the desired tab displays.

There are several ways to make your way around a module window:

Use the mouse

1. Place the cursor over a field and click.

The cursor displays in the field.

Use the TAB key

When you open a module from the Command Centre, it opens:

• on the module's first page; and
• with focus given to the tab (when you select a tab or field it is said to have focus). In this example, note the dotted border around the Person tab label. It currently has focus.

Every time you press the TAB key the cursor moves forward from the field or tab with focus to the next.

In the example above, if we pressed the TAB key, focus would shift from the Person tab to the Party Type: (Party Details) field (the first field on the page). If we pressed TAB again, focus would shift to the Title: (Person Details) field (the next field).

If we keep pressing TAB, focus will cycle through all the fields until it reaches the Taxonomic: (Derived Names) field. Press TAB again and focus shifts back to the Person tab label.

Use SHIFT+TAB

This will shift focus back one step at a time (e.g. from the Middle: (Person Details) field to the First: (Person Details) field).
